My husband, David, and I viewing the falls from Eagles' Nest

My husband, David, and I viewing the falls from Eagles’ Nest

Since the Broadmoor Hotel took over, Seven Falls rates high on my list of places to spend a summer afternoon. It was early spring when David and I were there and the morning breeze made it a bit nippy. The temperatures warmed significantly before we left.

One of the lovely things about Seven Falls is that it is only accessible by shuttle, making the roads at the falls vacant and safe to meander while taking note of rock formations surrounding the canyon. I was particularly amused at the one named “Half Dome.”

In addition to the sights and restaurant, there is an elevator to Eagles’ Nest which offers an amazing variety of rocks and fossils.

A little history lesson revealed that it was on December 5, 1872, that Nathaniel Colby homesteaded the acreage that included the present-day Seven Falls. Nine months later he sold the patent to the Colorado Springs Land company for $1000. The rest is history.

Happy trails!
