“For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ” (Galatians 3:27 NKJV).

The Message says it this way: “But now you have arrived at your destination: by faith in Christ you are in direct relationship with God. Your baptism in Christ was not just washing you up for a fresh start. It also involved dressing you in an adult faith wardrobe—Christ’s life, the fulfillment of God’s original promise.”

Wearing an adult faith wardrobe doesn’t have much to do with clothing. It’s our spiritual wardrobe that needs examining. We have a new way of looking at things. Putting on Christ is our effort to be more like Him. The more we learn about Him, the more we understand what to put on and what to take off.

One thing that may have to change is the way you talk. Words are powerful and should always be used in an edifying way. Forget the coarse language and jokes that we used to listen to. We’re putting Holiness on and there’s no room for profanity or gossip. Read the words in red in your Bible and begin to speak like Jesus does, comforting, direct, honest. He never minced words and neither should we. This may be a new thing, but we can learn it.

Put on compassion. Stop and listen when people talk. Are they asking for your help? Do they need Jesus? Take time to listen. Put on gratefulness. We must be thankful for all He has done for us. Put on humility, Micah 6:8 gives us a clue: “He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”

And the miracle is that you have been given these garments. You can be encouraging, compassionate, and humble.
