A New Year

By His grace, the Lord bestows a new year upon us. The New Year is a gift, wrapped in celebration and expectation. We list new resolutions, plan new projects, create new themes; our imaginations soar! Eagerly we launch into the New Year with new hope. It gives us energy and renews our strength. We know we can do better and be better than we were last year. We understand that what we learned from past failures as well as successes will serve us well in our efforts to plan 2011.

As the Lord graciously presents His gift, we would do well to anticipate the hope and goodness included in the simple giving of the gift. Acknowledge the grace surrounding it. Unwrap it slowly and deliberately; share the joy of it with the Father. He is our strength and our hope for the coming year and all the years to come. He promises to support us always, “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” (Is. 40:29-31).

Every New Year’s Day we make new resolutions, reevaluate old ones and toss out what didn’t work the year before. Life reveals that if we don’t change the way we do things, then things won’t change. The New Year is all about doing things differently, taking new approaches, and finding unique ways to tackle both old and new challenges. It’s about new beginnings, new commitment to new and old projects. This year will be different, we say to ourselves, and in fact it will be different, especially if that’s what we really desire. “Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart” (Ps 37:4). The year is full of promise and no matter what has happened before, no matter what anyone says about anything, He gives us another chance at something we want to change or achieve. This is where vision and creativity rise out of ashes of an old year. We enthusiastically picture new growth and productivity for the future.

And God is all about creativity. Look at the stars, look at the mountains, the lakes, the seas, the sky; He continues to create within us and through us every day. In fact, we get many opportunities for new starts. We get new days. We get new weeks, new months, new years, new decades, new centuries and new millenniums. He is all about creating new beginnings.

Every one of us has goals and desires we would like to accomplish in the year to come. We must remember the experience of walking through the year’s achievements and activities humbly with the Lord is of greater value than what ever our own expectations can be. He has a unique plan for each of us and He loves each of us in a special and individual way. Trusting Him for the fruition of any plan must come first, then, with prayer and thanksgiving, we proceed with our own strategy.  He will present new opportunities, strengthen us to meet new challenges and comfort us through trials to come.

We are blessed to begin this New Year with our first little granddaughter. Now we are so proud to have both a grandson and a little baby girl. Our joy at these blessings is immeasurable. Lord, You are so good to us. You give good gifts. We are so thankful for our families and our dear friends. We praise You for Your great wisdom and we humbly thank You for Your unmatched generosity. Thank You for this new year. In the precious name of Yeshua, Amen.
